Gattuso is dissatisfied with the competition system: 6 of the 10 South American teams can directly advance + the 7th place play-off, which is regrettable

Before the match against Moldova, Italian coach Gennaro Gattuso was dissatisfied with the European preliminaries format in an interview with Sky Sports.

Gattuso said: "I agree that winning helps to win more wins. But we must take a good look at the (qualification) rules. We have discussed this issue before: but seeing those South American qualifiers with 10 teams, 6 of them directly advance, and the seventh place has to play the play-offs with the Oceania team. This is the most regrettable part. The problem is not that we are going to play the play-offs themselves. These rules definitely need to be re-evaluated."
