Giroud talks about rejecting Koscheerney: You are promoted and you have to relegate, Lille has the European game in the forefront of Ligue 1

Former Arsenal star Giroud refused to reunite with his old teammate Koscheerney. Now retired centre-back Coscheerney is currently serving as Lorient's sporting director, but the club lost to Ligue 1 rival Ligue 1 rival Lille in the signing for Giroud.

Girou moved to the Major League Soccer in 2024, but during his brief play at Los Angeles FC, he scored five goals in just 38 games. The experienced striker has already shown better form with his new boss Lille, scoring goals in his first two Ligue 1 games.

Giroud: "I told him that this adventure (in Los Angeles FC) might end this summer because he wasn't happy playing there. So he stood up. I had a good relationship with Koscheerney."

Lorient returned to Ligue 1 as the second league champion, but they needed a new striker as last season's top scorer Krupie returned to parent team Bournemouth. Lill also lost their top scorer Jonathan David, who joined Juventus, and Giroud said the Europa League chances were also an important factor in his choice of Lille.

"When I was at Lille, I had to say, 'Man, these are two different events.' You are promoted and need to fight for relegation, while Lille is in the European arena and Ligue 1. He (Koscheerney) understands that."

Giroud missed Lille's third game of the season, which happened to be away against Lorient. The away team won 7-1 and climbed to third place in the standings. Lorient currently ranks 16th with 3 points.
