According to Lakers reporter Dave McMenamin, who works for ESPN, Reeves rejected the four-year, $89.2 million early contract renewal offered by the Lakers, the largest contract Reeves can get this summer. By next summer, Reeves is eligible to sign a four-year, $98 million contract extension with the Lakers; or if he does not execute the player option next summer, he is eligible to sign a contract that accounts for 25% of the 2026-27 salary cap.

Dave McMenamin said that several sources said the Lakers gave their own offer, and they knew Reeves would refuse, but they still wanted to express their interest in staying him and did not want to send a wrong signal because they did not provide a renewal offer. Several sources revealed that both sides (Lakemen and Reeves) have the motivation to reach a contract renewal agreement next summer.

ESPN veteran salary expert Bobby Marks previously said that if Reeves jumps out of his contract and becomes a free agent next summer, the Lakers and other teams with salary space can sign a contract with him that accounts for 25% of the salary cap. The starting salary for the new contract is $42.5 million, of which the maximum salary contract with the Lakers is $246.7 million for five years, and other teams sign a maximum salary contract for four years, $182.9 million.

In July 2023, Reeves signed a four-year, $53.83 million contract renewal contract with the Lakers. There are two years left. The salary in the 2025-26 season is $13.94 million, and the 2026-27 season is a player option worth $14.9 million.

In the 2024-25 season, Reeves played 73 regular season games for the Lakers, averaging 20.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game; in the playoffs, Reeves made five appearances, averaging 16.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
