Lakers reporter Anthony Irwin posted a message to reveal the Lakers' next signing plan, believing that Whitmore and Melton are the team's goals.
Anthony Irwin wrote: "Sources revealed that if the Houston Rockets decide to cut some salary or expand in Kevin Durant's trade to include Dorian Finney Smith's acquisition, then Whitmore, who is seeking a bigger role, could be the traded candidate."
"The Lakers' signings have not stopped after signing free agent Ayton. According to sources, the Lakers' focus will now turn to the wingers and further supplement the depth of the center position. Melton and Horford are both rumored with the Lakers, but Melton is considered a more likely signing target," Anthony Irwin wrote.
Whitmore averaged 16.2 minutes per game this season, scoring 9.4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 0.6 steals and 0.3 blocks, with shooting percentages of 44.4%, 35.5% and 75% respectively in the three events.
Melton was reimbursed for the season due to injury (torched cruciate ligament) after playing for the Warriors for 6 games this season. The Warriors then used him as the main trade to the Nets' Schroder. In these 6 games, Melton averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
