German media: Boateng was able to go on an internship because he had a good relationship with Kompany, and the latter thought the request was harmless

Boateng is about to return to Sebena Street as a trainee. This incident has caused dissatisfaction among many Bayern fans. German media sport1 reported that Bayern coach Kompany was willing to give Boateng such an opportunity because there are many connections between the two and he believed that he was bound by a code of honor.
Shortly after halftime of last Saturday's Bundesliga match, active fans in the South Stand of Bayern's home stadium unfurled several banners targeting Boateng personally and his upcoming apprenticeship with the club. One of them read: "He who gives space to the criminal shares his guilt - Boateng, get out!"
Just like two years ago when the former team's meritorious defender was considered for employment again, Boateng was labeled as a "person of bad character", and the position of Bayern's die-hard fan base is now once again revealed. However, although the club's hierarchy abandoned plans to sign him in the autumn of 2023, their reaction is different this time.
The senior management supported coach Kompany's decision to allow Boateng to observe his work within a few days. Sports director Eberl said after Saturday's game: "This topic suddenly became very big. It does not involve any hiring or a permanent position at Bayern Munich. It is just about observing training sessions. We recognize it. We think: this is not a problem."
Board chairman Dresson also expressed similar views and emphasized that "everyone has the right to reintegrate into society." He also recommended that the public fully understand the sentence against Boateng. Drayson was referring to: Although Boateng was found guilty of intentional common bodily harm to his ex-girlfriend in July 2024, legally speaking, he is not considered to have a criminal record.
What is particularly important for Bayern is that the presiding judge at the time emphasized that there was no evidence for the accusation of "habitual woman beater". For proven charges, she imposed a fine of 200,000 euros - with the caveat that the penalty would be reserved.
Boateng believes he is innocent - including in the case of his ex-girlfriend Kasia L. He told SPORT1 in an exclusive interview in May this year: "I feel that I am not guilty in a criminal law sense, and I am not guilty because I never hit her." Still, he blamed himself.
Given this "complicated case" (according to Drayson), the question remains why Kompany was willing to bring Boateng on board. What is noteworthy in the report is that there are many connections between the two men.
The two were teammates in Hamburg and Manchester City. According to SPORT1, Kompany therefore felt bound by a code of honor that he would not, in principle, refuse a request from a former colleague for what he considered to be a harmless apprenticeship.
Kompany also said at the post-match press conference on Saturday: "It is not a big problem that someone is allowed to watch three or four trainings to improve themselves." He himself paved the way for Boateng's apprenticeship a few weeks ago, and now explained: "We have 20 people coming to watch training every year."
But the report also pointed out that it is doubtful whether these explanations are enough to satisfy the die-hard fan base in the South Stand. It is likely that this topic will be discussed again at the annual general meeting in early November. And it wouldn't be the first time a heated discussion has arisen: the annual general meeting has traditionally been a platform for fans to criticize the club.
