Marca: European seed team s home advantage in the second round can be extended to the semi-finals, and seed identity can be snatched

According to Marca, the Executive Committee of the UEFA Executive Committee has announced an important new regulations for major European competitions this season, involving the Champions League, the Europa League, the European Cup and the Women's Champions League.

According to the new competition system implemented last season, "seeds" (i.e., teams ranked 1 to 8 in the league stage) can only ensure home advantage in the second leg of the quarterfinals. If you advance, you lose the "home court advantage" and the advantage will be randomly determined by drawing lots.

The situation is different now: the Executive Committee decided that in the quarterfinals, the seeds (theoretically ranked 1-4 in the league stage) would get a home advantage in the second leg. In addition, these seeds — 1st and 2nd preset in the league stage — will continue to enjoy home advantage in the second leg of the semifinals.

This move aims to increase the importance of final rankings in the league stage. However, there is a "special situation" here: that is, you can "grab" the home field advantage. If a seed team is eliminated in or after the quarterfinals, those teams that rank below 8th in the league stage will automatically receive their "ranking".

Taking last year's Champions League as an example, Paris Saint-Germain eliminated Liverpool in the quarterfinals (Liverpool ranked first in the league stage), then Paris Saint-Germain will automatically become a seed and enjoy a home advantage in the remaining games. If Paris is eliminated, this "ranking" advantage will be passed on to the team that eliminated them.
