Rooney: Kane is the best 9 in England history, but lacks a little "villain" temperament like me

In an interview with Ferdinand's show, Rooney praised Kane as "the greatest No. 9 player ever" but also talked about what Kane lacked compared to himself.

How do you think of Kane's way of pulling back deeper now?

He has developed this style of play in the past few years. Kane is a smart guy who knows he's never been the fastest, but I think he's losing a little bit of sharpness right now. He scored countless goals last season at Bayern. He is a shooter, very calm and smart in choosing positions.

I watched Bayern in the Club World Cup, and he was almost like Totti in the Roman period. He would retreat and then a player would jump from him. But as the ball moves forward, or moves to the other side, he will gradually enter the penalty area. So he doesn't rely on sprinting, but he can always show up there. If he gets the chance, he can score. To me, he is the greatest number nine player ever.

Do you think Kane has become a better player than you?

As a player, I'm not sure. I think I can do something he might not be able to do. I'm also more "nastier" than him. He can also create goals in terms of goals. People would say, ‘Oh, he scored against San Marino or so-and-so. ’But he can score goals in every game. Did he play well in every game? No, but to me, he is above everyone.

What exactly does the "bad" or "villain" temperament you mentioned refer to?

It gives you that advantage. This may be the reason why he has been in Tottenham for so long. You need to step out of your comfort zone, you want to try a different club and strive to succeed. I'm glad he won the league in Germany, but he just lacked that little bit of transformation.
