Spanish jersey designer: The blue on the jersey pays tribute to Iniesta, and Yamal drives sales

Adidas released on Wednesday the 22 official jerseys that its national teams will wear in the 2026 World Cup. Radio Serre interviewed Adidas designer Mateo Cosman. The designer said that the blue color of the jerseys is to pay tribute to the 2010 World Cup and Iniesta's goals. The reason why Spanish jerseys sell best is because of Yamal.

Designer Cosman explained the secret behind the design of this jersey and the source of inspiration for Adidas to create a jersey for the Spanish national team: "Our goal was to create an unprecedented jersey. The Spanish team's jersey has always been red, yes, but this time it is cleverly paired with blue, which is of great significance to the team and also to the 2010 World Cup and Ine Stana's goal."

Designer Cosman also said that this blue is very similar to the color of the jersey worn by the Spanish team when they won their first World Cup title against the Netherlands in Johannesburg. "It has a strong resonance with Spanish fans and the football world" because "it is impossible for people to forget Iniesta's goal in the South Africa final; it will make every fan's blood boil." He also pointed out that this blue color, which has previously appeared on other Spanish jerseys, "works very harmoniously with the red and yellow" and is able to "incorporate elements of the national flag into the brand's iconic three stripes."

Designer Cosman finally concluded that the reason why the Spanish jersey ranks among the brand's best-selling jerseys is partly due to Yamal's high popularity: "Yamal is our idol and a member of the Adidas family. We are very happy to have him printed on the Spanish national team jersey." Designer Cosman said that jersey sales during the World Cup are expected to hit a new high, and the market performance of the jersey often depends on the team's performance on the field. "If the national team performs well in the World Cup, we will see a huge increase in jersey sales."
