The Palestinian Football Association issued an official statement to express respect for the recent solidarity actions of Palestinian by sports people and further called on the governing body to impose a ban on Israeli football. The Palestine Football Association declares as follows:
The Palestine Football Association would like to pay tribute to the recent solidarity actions shown by sports institutions, athletes and fans, and thank them for their support to the Palestinian people and athletes. The Norwegian Football Association decided to donate the proceeds against Israel to the Gaza region. The position expressed by the Spanish Prime Minister during the Spanish cycling tour all sent a clear signal: the sports interface must not be silent in the face of genocide.
The purpose of FIFA, UEFA and the Olympic Charter is based on dignity, equality and peace. But Israel continues to trample on these principles: killing athletes and destroying sports infrastructure; managing illegal settlement penalties on the occupied Palestinian land, blatantly violating FIFA regulations; condoning athletes and sports institutions to support or justify the ongoing genocide; and deeply rooted systemic discrimination against Palestinians in Israel’s sports community. Allowing Israel to continue participating while committing such systemic violence is a fundamental shake of the foundation of international sports.
The Palestinian Football Association reiterates its firm position: sanctions must be imposed on Israel and suspend its national team and athletes' qualifications to participate in international events until all crimes, including atrocities against the Palestinian sports community, end. The international sports community has moral responsibility to take action immediately.
We call on all international sports organizations, associations and athletes to take responsibility and act with a clear ethical standpoint. What justice requires is action rather than empty talk.
