TA reporters Joe Vardon, Christian Clark and Sam Amick jointly wrote an article, revealing some insider information about the Mavericks' firing of general manager Nico Harrison.
Multiple team employees revealed to TA that Harrison not only appoints unqualified people to important positions, but also has a lack of tolerance for anyone who disagrees with his way of doing things. The Mavericks' longtime director of health and conditioning, Casey Smith, was fired just weeks before the start of the 2023-24 season. Smith is highly respected in the NBA and maintains a good relationship with the Mavericks. But he ultimately wasn't retained, in part because he sometimes took issue with Harrison's rigid approach, team sources said.
A former team employee told TA: "If you offend Nico at any stage, that's it. He is a very sensitive person."
