Today, John Hollinger, an expert at The Athletic, wrote an article about the situation of Lakers center Hayes, who believes that the latter may stay in the team. The following is some of the content.
"The Lakers may try to find a better option, and Hayes may also look for a place that appreciates him more, but I don't think that would rule out their reunion." John Hollinger wrote. "Considering that the Lakers have early bird rights on Hayes and the limited salary given to substitute centers like him in the market, both sides may find that continuing this less pleasant collaboration is better than other options."
Nico Martinez wrote: "Haes was once thought to be bound to leave the team, but the latest news shows that he may actually renew his contract with the Lakers, with a relatively low contract price ($10 million to $15 million in three years)."
In 56 regular season games this season, Hayes averaged 6.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists, with a shooting percentage of 72.2%, of which he started 35 times. But in the playoffs, his playing time plummeted from 19.5 minutes per game to 7.8 minutes. He lost his place in Redick's rotation.
