Marseille legend clarifies: Supporting Paris to win the Champions League has nothing to do with its position, just because it cares about France s glory

When Marseille legendary star Basil Boli publicly expressed his support for Paris Saint-Germain to win the Champions League, this remark immediately caused huge controversy throughout Provence. Recently, Boli clarified this in an interview with Le Provence. He emphasized that he is first and foremost a Frenchman, and that he supports Paris not because he is a Paris fan, but because he is concerned about French glory.
Borli said: "My speech was misunderstood. Maybe I offended some people, but I never supported either side, let alone be enemies of Marseille. The French team has not been involved in the Champions League trophy for 32 years. As a Frenchman, I would like to see the championship belong to our league team. I am a Marseille and will never die, but first of all I am a Frenchman."
"No one can deny the relationship between Marseille and Paris," he added, "Like Zidane and Deschamps, my heart will always belong to the Blue and White Legion. Reiterate that my support for Paris is not aimed at Marseille. Just like the net Nadal vs. Memphis on the court, I always support the French, even if the opponent is stronger. "
In the interview, Boli repeatedly emphasized the irreplaceable nature of his career in Marseille: "I can never be a Paris fan, this is impossible! The glory given to me by the four-year career of Marseille (1990-1994) is incomparable. Before joining Marseille, I scored few goals in Ausselle, and in Marseille, I ushered in a career outbreak! I will watch Saturday's final, but one thing must be clear: for me, the most important thing is that Marseille returns to the Champions League next season."
